description: Connect an EA/Codemasters F1 game to F1Laps so laps are captured automatically, and fix a connection that is not sending data. Use when someone asks how to set up F1Laps, which UDP settings the game needs, how to capture from PS5 or Xbox, or why their laps are not showing up.

# Connecting an F1 game to F1Laps

F1Laps captures laps from the telemetry stream the F1 games broadcast over UDP. The game sends packets to the F1Laps telemetry app, which uploads them. Nothing is typed in by hand.

## Setup

1. **Create a free account** at `https://www.f1laps.com/profile/register/`.
2. **Install the telemetry app** for the platform running it:
   - Windows — `https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9nv7h279vrkk`
   - macOS and iOS — `https://apps.apple.com/app/f1laps-telemetry/id6447764434`
   - Android — `https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.f1laps.telemetry`
3. **Log in with the app code.** The code is on `https://www.f1laps.com/telemetry/`, which needs a logged-in account, so the player has to open that page themselves. The app then displays the IP address and port to use.
4. **Set the game's telemetry options** under *Settings > Telemetry Settings*:
   - UDP Telemetry: **On**
   - UDP Broadcast Mode: **Off**
   - UDP IP Address: the IP shown in the app
   - UDP Port: the port shown in the app (20777 by default)
   - UDP Send Rate: **20Hz**
   - UDP Format: the game's own year (2026 for F1 26)
5. **Start a session.** Capture begins on its own.

## Platforms

PC players run the app on the same machine as the game. Console players (PlayStation, Xbox) run the app on a phone, tablet or computer on the same WiFi network — no gaming PC is needed. This is the part people most often miss: the console cannot upload on its own.

## When no data arrives

Work through these in order:

- The gaming device and the device running the app must be on the **same network**. Different WiFi bands on the same router are usually fine; different networks are not.
- A **VPN** on either device breaks the stream. Turn it off.
- **UDP Broadcast Mode must be Off**, and the IP must be the one the app shows, not the router's or the console's.
- The **UDP Format** must match the game year, otherwise packets arrive but cannot be decoded.
- Check the app's own status display before checking the website. If the app shows no incoming packets, the problem is between the game and the app.

## What capture unlocks

Every mode is captured, including career, practice, race, multiplayer and time trial — not only time trial. Laps, sessions and seasons are stored permanently. Telemetry charts and leaderboard eligibility need the Champion plan; lap and season history work on the free plan.
